Sensex trading over 320 points down early afternoon

Mumbai, June 19 (IANS) Indian equity markets extended their loss in early afternoon trade Thursday. Banking, realty and capital goods stocks were the worst hit.

At 1:00 p.m., the 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, was at 15,101.40, down 320.91 points or 2.08 percent from its closing figure Wednesday. At the day's low it had touched 15,075.14 points.

The market breadth was negative. On BSE 708 shares advanced, 1,699 declined and 83 remained unchanged.

At the same time the broader based S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was down by 78.50 points or 1.71 percent at 4,503.90.

Practical WiFi Hacking Using Mobile Phones

In order to steal your data trough a rogue access point attack, a hacker needs only to overpower the local Wi-Fi access point and have your laptopInternet, except all your personal data will pass through the hacker’s computer which acts as a man-in-the-middle.

To run a successful rogue access point attack you need to control DNS and Internet traffic, as well as be able to sniff that traffic, and in the past that required another laptop. But Cnet’s reporter, Robert Vamosi presents a mobile phone scenario outlined by Carl Banzhof, VP and chief technology evangelist for McAfee during the RSA Conference 2007 in San Francisco.

Banzhof cites that many mobile devices today currently or will soon support Bluetooth, infrared, GPRS/EDGE, and Wi-Fi 802.11 technology. The market is evenly split in operating systems between Blackberry OS, Palm OS, and Windows Mobile, with the latter capable of running Internet Information Server (IIS). It's the Windows Mobile OS that interested Banzhof most.

The advantages of using a mobile device in an evil twin attack instead of a bulky laptop are many: mobile devices are easily camouflaged, portable, and can allow close proximity to the intended victim. Mobile devices are rapidly becoming transparent; everyone has one, so what's the big security concern?

Creating a mobile access point
To carry out this mobile evil twin attack, Banzhof chose the T Mobile MDA for his experiment. It runs Windows Mobile 5.0 as its operating system. It uses a TI OMAP 850 processor, so it has enough oomph, and it includes an 802.11 chipset, TI ACX100. Best of all, it has a robust developer community.

Banzhof faced a number of technical challenges--in part because most of the tools were written for Linux, not Windows Mobile. He looked around for other work done on WinCE and Windows Mobile 5 and found none. He considered converting the device to Linux but decided that violated the spirit of the project. He found some Linux projects that could be ported over, namely Hostapd and Karma. He started to use Visual Studio 2005 to compile the new code by hand, and instead found an open-source tool, CeGCC, to cross compile.

Devil in the details
By using Hostapd, Banzhof had many user-space 802.11 functions at his disposal, such as user authentication, encryption, initializing a network interface, beacon intervals to call out to susceptible laptops, and Extended Authoritization Protocol (EAP) keys. It also gave him an interface into the ACX100 driver (which handles the 802.11 protocol) so he could handle the management, transmission, and reception of wireless data packets. But again, there were problems. The open source app, CeGCC, doesn't always work right so he had to improvise, and wireless card selection for Hostapd was limited and didn't exist for the mobile device form factor.

The IIS for Windows Mobile server posed similar challenges. ISS for Windows Mobile supports Active Server Pages and ISAPI, with configurable options found in the system registry for allowing ports, creating virtual directors, and controlling bandwidth.

Testing it out
Banzhof reported to the RSA conference that he'd successfully ported Hostapd to Windows CE, he had his DHCP/DNA Server operational, and his Web server was online. He hopes in the future to route his sniffed Internet traffic to legitimate access points or via smart phone radio (EDGE) for further analysis.

Banzhof also hinted that similar hacks could be carried out with the new iPhone from Apple, given that many of the tools he used already run on Unix and Linux. Never mind that Apple promises that the iPhone will be a closed system. Banzhof noted that hasn't stopped anyone before.

How to Back Up Your Blogger Blog

There can be nothing worse than to login to Blogger one day and find you blogger blog gone, corrupted or deleted forever due to any unforseen error. Back up is very important. Here are a few simple ways to keep your Blogger blog safe and backed up….

Back up Blogger Posts

Backup Your Posts - Bloggers Blogsend allows each of my blog posts to be automatically sent to my email address. So I have a back up of all my posts as individual emails. You can further create folders in your email account (as in Yahoo Mail) or apply labels (in Gmail), and create filters such that such emails can be collected in one place.
Back up your entire blogger blog - Bloggers provides detailed instructions to create a single file with all your posts which you may publish and then copy to your own computer for use as desired. Remember to save a copy of your existing template in a file on your computer as you will need to have it at hand after this process is completed. This is good for a one time backup, but is cumbersome to do if you back up very frequently. Also you might mess up some setting and disbale your blog is not done right.
Try third party back up tools - like the HTTrack Web site copier for Windows users and Webgrabber for Mac users. Each of these applications will create a fully working, interlinked local copy of your blog for browsing offline and easily allow you to back up. Remember it will take considerable time and internet bandwidth if you have a huge blog.

Back up Blog Template

Back up the template whenever you change it. Just copy and paste the entire template code into any simple text editor like Notepad or Wordpad and save file with name like ‘myblog-date.txt’. After a while you will have a series of such files organized by date. If for some reason your blog goes away, just copy and paste the teplate back into Blogger and republish.
If you have lost your template partly or fully - learn how to restore your blog template code and then back it up.

Back Up Blog Comments

Blogger has an option to send you an email when someone leaves a comment on your blog. This is located in Setting > Comments option in Blogger. This enables you to collect all your comments as individual emails, much like the blogsend posts emails mentioned above. Then you can file them all together as labels or in a email folder.
If you moderate comments, you can get all your comments as emails pending your approval. This email address can again be entered in Setting > Comments. If you do not want to save rejected comments as emails and recieve only published comments - then you can keep the comment moderation email address blank, while filling up the Comment Notification Address.
If you use Haloscan Comments instead, then anyway your Blogger comments are off and Haloscan is keeping track of backing up your comments. I am using Blogger comments featured now with comment moderation, word verification captchas to combat comment spam.

Make blog back ups a habit and you will remember this post when it saves your blog on a bad day!
